What do I need to do to join Snohomish County RACES?

  • Be an Amateur Radio Operator with a valid license.
  • Be able to pass a background check.
  • Be approved by the Snohomish County Emergency Managment Director and the RACES Radio Officer.

You must show that you have completed the state required Incident Command System courses IS-100 and IS-700 before being issued an ID Card.

You will need to register so that the system can keep track of you and issue your completion certificate.

If you have completed these courses, attach a copy of your completion certificate to the Membership Application Form.

How do I join Snohomish County RACES?

  • Download the Snohomish County RACES Membership Application Form.
  • Complete the form. Sign it and attach a copy of your FCC Amateur Radio License and copies of the certificates you received after completing the ICS courses.
  • Mail the form to the address on the form.

After I join, what do I do?

  • Check in on the Tuesday night net or even arrange to be the Net Control Station from time to time.

    (20:00 hrs, on the Mt Pilchuck repeater at 146.920, - (minus) offset, and a PL Tone of 123.0)

  • Attend member meetings every third Thursday of the month at 19:00 hrs., held at the Department of Emergency Management Offices at Paine Field.
  • Volunteer and participate in RACES events and activities. These are excellent training opportunities.
  • Keep you "Go Kit" ready and radio programmed and batteries charged. For more information, see the section on Jump Kits on the Education page.
  • In the event of an emergency or disaster, check into the Resource Net on the Pilchuck Repeater (repeater parameters are listed above).
